Surgical Technologist
• About Facility:
o 637 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Teaching Hospital
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
• Unit Information:
o Beds: 9 Labor Beds, 3 ORs, 4 PACUs, 11 Antepartum, 4 triage, 27 Postpartum,
• Census? 2-14 L&D
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years L&D RN experience., 1 year OB Surg Tech experience
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
• Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Laboring patients, Antepartum patients, a triage area, PACU and OR
• Patient Ratios:
o RN: Follow AWHONN Guidelines
o OB Tech: 2-3 per shift
• Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.):
o RN: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring required. BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) required - meaning traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of Compliance
o Surg Tech: BLS, CST
• Skills required:
o RN: Strong clinical assessment and L&D skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital, IV insertion and care, central line management, Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
o Surg Tech: scrub surgeries, c-sections, set up tables for vaginal deliveries, stock the unit
• Support within the Department:
o 2 OB Surg Techs per shift
o CNA? Duties? Yes - assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
o Receptionist/HUC? Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
o Charge nurse - may have patients
o IV/VAT Team? Not an IV team - do have a PICC team
o RT 24/7? yes
o Hospitalist 24/7? yes
o Intensivist 24/7? Yes
o OB Physicians, 24/7
o Bedside and Nursing Station Tele/Fetal monitoring
