Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education - Georgia Academy for the Blind (GAB) is recruiting for a School Psychologist. Under general supervision, the incumbent provides support and assistance to the staff including support for assessment and treatment for persons with vision loss.

Primary Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, including record review, formal and informal testing, classroom observations, and interviews with students, parents, and staff
  • Gather and synthesizes available information, selects appropriate test instruments, and administers student screenings, evaluations, and reviews
  • Analyze and evaluate problems and create alternative procedures and materials to utilize with special populations
  • Interpret a variety of psychological and educational assessments
  • Write comprehensive psychoeducational reports aligned with federal, state, and district guidelines
  • Complete necessary paperwork as required by the eligibility process
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to design and implement academic and behavioral interventions
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and school teams regarding student eligibility and services
  • Participate in special education eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and discipline reviews, as well as special education programming decisions
  • Maintains database of evaluation results and test scores to create norms for specialized populations and provide summaries or analyses to professionals working with students.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during critical incidents, and provide counseling when appropriate
  • Perform classroom observations to support teachers
  • Serve on Leadership or Support Teams as an academic and behavioral consultant
  • Provide professional learning and consultation at the school and district level
  • Attend meetings, in-service training, and professional workshops at the request of the supervisor
  • Interact with all levels of state government promotes respect, encourages cooperation, and contributes to excellent performance
  • Exhibit professionalism and demonstrate professional standards; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school-level Superintendent or direct supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in School Psychology
  • Eligibility for Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) S-5 certification (S-6 or S-7 preferred) in school psychology.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
  • Three years of successful school psychology, or related experience.
  • Experience working with visually impaired or special needs students
  • Experience working with students in a residential setting

High school diploma/GED and seven (7) years of program management experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Education Prgm Spec 3 (EDP032) or position equivalent.
