About the Role - Become the First Generation of Domestic Abuse Peer Recovery Specialists!
At Wind Haven Foundation, we believe that healed people help heal people. Our Certified Peer Recovery Specialists are survivors who have walked through the fire, found freedom, and are now ready to walk alongside others on their healing journey.
This is more than just a volunteer role-it's sacred work. Survivor-led mentorship grounded in compassion, faith, and real-life lived experience. You'll be part of our mission to revolutionize domestic abuse recovery by offering safety, strategy, and soul-deep support to those reclaiming their lives.
What Makes This Different
Most peer recovery certifications focus on addiction or generalized mental health. Ours is different-it's specific to domestic abuse recovery.
There's no national standard or state certification for domestic abuse survivor peer support-we are that standard. Wind Haven's certification is trauma-informed, faith-rooted, and survivor-built.
Required Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, you must:
Be a survivor of domestic abuse, intimate partner violence, or coercive control
Successfully complete our Wind Haven's 6Domestic Abuse Survivor Recovery + Peer Support Specilist Training Program
Demonstrate emotional readiness and stability to support others (evaluated during the interview process)
Commit to ongoing spiritual, emotional, and personal growth
Be at least 21 years old
Role Responsibilities
Offer one-on-one or group peer support (virtually) to survivors in early recovery through mentorship, encouragement, and lived-experience guidance
Help survivors navigate Wind Haven's programs, healing tools, and online recovery campus with clarity and compassion
Support the mission through organic outreach-this includes sharing about the recovery program in your community, on social media, or within safe survivor spaces as appropriate (always trauma-informed and consent-based)
Attend monthly supervision sessions and continuing education opportunities to grow in leadership, deepen your skills, and stay aligned with Wind Haven's model
Uphold confidentiality, maintain ethical standards, and embody Wind Haven's values in all peer interactions
Immediately report any red flags, safety concerns, or crisis situations to your supervisor-peer mentors don't carry it alone; you're part of a team
Ideal Traits
We're looking for volunteers who are:
Growth-minded - You've done the work, and you're not done growing
Faith-filled but not judgmental - Grounded in grace, guided by Scripture, and not afraid to sit in the mess with someone
Authentic - You know how to tell your story with truth and dignity, and you use it to lift others
Stable and self-aware - You understand your triggers, have healthy boundaries, and know when to pause or refer
Collaborative - You thrive in community, receive feedback with humility, and bring your strengths to the table
Role Responsibilities
Offer one-on-one or group peer support (virtually) to survivors in early recovery
Help others navigate Wind Haven's programs, tools, and recovery resources
Attend monthly supervision sessions and continuing education opportunities
Uphold confidentiality, follow Wind Haven's values, and operate with integrity and compassion
Immediately report any red flags, safety concerns, or crisis situations to your supervisor
What This Role Is NOT
This is not therapy. This is not crisis intervention.
Peer Recovery Specialists are mentors, not clinicians. You're not here to fix. You're here to walk beside. To show what healing looks like with skin on.
