Store Manager

The Store Manager reports to the Regional Manager and ensures the uniform execution of the Division's direction within their store.

Essential Functions

Sales & Profit

  • Meet or exceed store sales and profit plans through training, coaching, and managing the sales staff.
  • Provide training and communicate meeting or exceeding Service Excellence goals to sales staff.
  • Communicate with the Regional Manager and BSS merchants regarding merchandise issues and needs.
  • Ensure merchandise is consistently presented in store with Belk visual and merchandising standards.
  • Coordinate timely floor setup for all promotional and seasonal activities.
  • Maintain shrinkage control and Loss Prevention through continual management of associates.
  • Properly execute all existing systems and procedures, and own new system implementations and processes.
  • Manage associates on price integrity, including timely completion of price changes and proper communication through approved channels.
  • Follow the ROCC the Dock process to ensure merchandise is on the sales floor per productivity standards.

Expense Planning & Management

  • Adhere to annual expense budgets to achieve profit goals.
  • Monitor store payroll and non-payroll expenses to meet expense percentage goals.
  • Take timely action on expense variances.
  • Ensure adequate staffing in all departments to meet customer service expectations.
  • Lead the Workload Planning process.

People Development

  • Conduct timely reviews, communicate development needs, and set goals for the team.
  • Recruit, interview, select, and retain quality associates, ensuring timely filling of all positions.
  • Maintain high store morale through effective communication of policies and information.
  • Provide coaching to improve associate performance.
  • Discuss career paths and advancement opportunities with associates.
  • Ensure execution of Associate Engagement Surveys, review with management and Regional Manager, and follow up on issues.
  • Ensure HR guidelines are met, including hiring to the store matrix, maximizing weekend hours, and proactively managing turnover plans.

Education / Experience Requirements

Position Contribution Level: Expert Level

  • Four-year college degree or retail management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant software.
  • Excellent supervisory, analytical, and reasoning skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Use of computer keyboard, telephone, and business equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 72 lbs at floor level and above shoulder height.
  • Push/pull equipment weighing up to 500 lbs.
  • Stand for long periods.
  • Twist, bend, and stoop to retrieve and place items.
  • Work at a safe and steady pace.

Supervisor: Regional Manager

Supervises: All store management and their reports
