POSITION: Director of Adult Education Instruction – South

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Director of Adult Education reports to the Dean of Adult Education and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing instruction for Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) students in adult education. The primary responsibility of the Director of Adult Education is to direct adult education programs and provide instructional leadership to as well as supervise program faculty. The South region includes: South Bartow (Summer Hill in Cartersville), Cobb and Paulding counties.

MAJOR DUTIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

  1. Establishes and directs all adult education instructional programs for assigned campus locations.
  2. Plans, organizes, and directs instruction for students in the following AE programs: Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency, and English as a Second Language.
  3. Provides instructional leadership, conducts classroom observations/walk-throughs, and supports, trains, and develops instructors.
  4. In accordance with local and state policies and procedures, directs the development and implementation of instructional services, including student intake and assessment, curriculum implementation, recruitment and retention planning, and department staff development.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Actively works with the Dean of Adult Education to ensure the consistent implementation and application of TCSG and college policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines across all assigned adult education class sites.
  2. Collaborates with all Adult Education leaders and works in support of instruction and instructors.
  3. Ensures targeted negotiation goals related to instruction are met.
  4. Utilizes GALIS to monitor data; advises faculty as necessary on GALIS data.
  5. Participates in grant application processes.
  6. Participates in and leads staff development and team conferences.
  7. Displays a high level of professional commitment to the work and its purpose.
  8. Proactively implements the vision of the Dean of Adult Education.

SUPERVISORY

  1. Provides instructional leadership, supervision, and support to assigned faculty (coaching, training, performance evaluations, etc.) within the organizational structure of the program.
  2. Works with Human Resources personnel to coordinate new faculty hires; verifies appropriate qualifications.
  3. Makes expeditious and sound decisions on issues related to the performance of duties and responsibilities within the position's authority and the organizational structure of the college.
  4. Coordinates, evaluates, and provides written feedback on quarterly lesson plans.
  5. Conducts regular visits to program sites, observes and evaluates classroom instruction, including evening and online classes.
  6. Assists with and leads the professional development of staff.
  7. Promotes a professional, collaborative, and cooperative department culture.

OTHER DUTIES

  1. Establishes positive and cooperative working relationships in the department, college, and community.
  2. Maintains an appropriate professional, community, and leadership presence, behavior, and image.
  3. Other responsibilities as directed by the Dean of Adult Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Baccalaureate Degree required in Education, Social Work, or Psychology or field of study closely related to the occupational field.
  2. Experience sufficient to understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits and students in the department in order to direct work, meaning three to five years of related experience.
  3. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in Education, Social Work, or Psychology or field of study closely related to the occupational field.
  2. Three to five years of experience working as an instructor or administrator in an Adult Education setting.
  3. Proficient skills in Leadership, Technology Application, Interpersonal Relations, Organizational Skills, Written and Oral Presentation Skills.
  4. Experience writing and managing a competitive Adult Education grant.
  5. Resides in one of Chattahoochee Technical College's service area counties.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $71,050.72 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.
